Active Hope workshop with Kim Kurschner

Ecophilosopher Joanna Macy, PhD, is a scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology. A respected voice in the movements for peace, justice, and ecology, she interweaves her scholarship with five decades of activism. She and her colleagues created the Work That Reconnects, a groundbreaking theoretical framework and workshop methodology that navigates personal and social change.

In the centre of her framework stands the Spiral consisting of 4 stages:

  • Coming from Gratitude

  • Honouring Our Pain for the World

  • Seeing with New

  • Going Forth

In the Workshop “Active Hope” you will have the opportunity to experience the spiral. We will start with gratitude for the world, sharing emotions about the current state of the world, continuing with seeing these emotions with new eyes, and finishing with ideas on how to get into action. The exercises include parts of connecting yourself with the natural environment and like-minded people. As the workshop is just 2 h cannot go deep into each stage of the spiral, but we think you will get a nice introduction.

If you want to know more, there is also a course offered in Period 6b called: Exploring Regenerative Cultures for Sustainability with a full week outdoor training on training around work that reconnects. You can subscribe by sending me an email: Kimberly.kurschner@wur.nl
